Hi Folks,
It can be taken to mean someone who is (as I have heard in the last few decades) "A Queer" or to mean "A gay person" but in jolly old England a few centuries ago the word represented some small kindling wood like small branches such as this: "The poor old woman had gathered a bundle of fagots to light her hearth and warm her home."
The term Queer itself used to mean "odd" or "unusual" but when it was later directed at people it was used with a significantly derogatory and insulting meaning.
Also, when people referred to "The Gay 90's" before the turn of the century and just around the time of the Industrial Revolution age, it did not mean that everyone was homosexual or lesbian but that these were "The good years" (more or less). Language is always evolving. This is meant to be informative and not insulting as posted here by me...... Carl

you are either very naive, or very asinine. Of course "faggott" is offencive. It is a rude word for homosexuals. It can also be used to call someone stupid or an idiot.

It seems that today most words are offensive, Laura on big brother got told off for saying POOF. Uneffing believable isn't. It wouldn't surprise me if Bugs bunny was offensive.

It wouldn't be the nicest thing to call a person, unless you were referring to a gay queer. You Brits really don't know the meaning of the word, you say it is everything from a cigar to meatball gravy,go ahead and eat your fagot gravy, and you accuse us of poor English.
