Sir, as i understand it, the question you really asked hasn't been answered. It is a actually impossible to determine from the vin # if engine was replaced. You can however determine the correct engine size from the vin. The eight'th digit in vin reveals engine size. Here is a link that may help.

If the numbers are different, the engine has been changed. The car should have the same vin number on all parts for identity.
