It just occurred to me that I never got the chance to find out what that golden bird was.
In the first season, when Pokemon still had some dignity, right after Pikachu had saved Ash, they looked in the sky and saw a huge golden bird Pokemon flying through the rainbow. Anyone know anything about it?

It's Ho-oh. Later on in the series, when Ash goes to Ecruteak City in Johto, he sees a mural with Ho-oh on it and mentions that he's seen it before. Later on, Ash sees Ho-oh again when he decides to travel to Hoenn.
