i personally think it should be legalized. drinking alchohol is far worse for your body than marijuana. smoking weed kills brain cells and if you smoke alot of it every day it could damage your lungs but drinking alchohol occasionally damages your liver. plus, when was the last time you heard someone kill someone because they were high off pot. alot of people make stupid mistakes when they are drunk, including harming people physically. anyone agree with me?

I agree with you.
marijuana prohibition is much more harmful than anything negative that happens to you because of the the weed itself.
The State has no business destroying people's lives to a greater extent than the substance in question ever destroys people's lives.
Marijuana Prohibition is a shameful chapter in our country's history for that reason alone. It's destined to be remembered with slavery, Japanese internment, segregation, our crimes in Nicaragua, Ahu Grahib, and Fox News!
Happy 4th and don't believe the hype!

I agree that it should be legalized. Most people don't really have any logical or sound reasons why it should stay illegal, but merely believe such because it is illegal and carries such a stigma in our society. They think because it "is" illegal, that it "ought" to be illegal, which is a rather illogical way of thinking. It also seems that a lot of people who have answered this question don't really know what they are talking about. A few mentioned marijuana's effect on memory. While it is true that while under the influence of marijauna memory is affected, and for chronic users memory can be mildly affected for up to a few weeks after quitting, the effects are not long-term, nor significant. The greatest risk you'll face while using marijuana is running out of munchies. Alcohol is much worse than marijuana. Those who are high from marijuana are more aware of the state that they are in; they realize how buzzed, high, or stoned they are. However, those who are under the influence of alcohol are not as aware of the state they are in, which makes them more dangerous, as they are more likely to drive and do other things they shouldn't in their condition. Those using marijuana are more likely to underestimate their ability, while those using alcohol tend to overestimate their ability, again making them far more dangerous. Also, one cannot overdose on marijuana, nor die from immediately stopping after being a chronic user. The same cannot be said of alcohol. I could babble on some more, but I think I've said enough! :)

You can not get a straight answer- depends on who you believe but I really do not think it is that bad. I am in grad school and know all kinds of peers and some teachers who smoke-- these are very high achieving people. Just like any substance overdoing it has the potential to be bad for you but if used in moderation it is not damaging. The last research I did basically said it slows brain cells but as long as it is not overdone (like smoking all the time) it has no real long term effects. Breathing the air is bad for your lungs- everything is bad for you- really so in the grand scheme of things I do not think it is that bad for you... the legalization thing is because it is hard to be taxed-- there are a number of reasons to legalize pot including not cutting down trees for paper but like I said there are taxation issues. Addiction is not that big of a deal with pot either because the same people who smoke pot everyday would either stop if it wasn't around or do something else. The ones doing something else are having issues within themselves- it is not about pot it is about escape so in that regard an addict is an addict. I wish it were legal so that all this money used to "fight the war on drugs" (lol) could be put to better use like feeding hungry people or taking care of veterans that are homeless and drinking their way dead to avoid reexperiencing their trauma.

I think it is that bad when in the hands of children who don't have self control as it is. As far as legalizing it, sure....they should tax the hell out of it and sell it for adults. It could probably cut our national debt in half.
As far as being harmful, it is worse than smoking cigarettes for your lungs, has been shown to cause certain psych disorders, effects your memory, and really you don't want people driving around on it. There's no way to test how much someone consumed like a breathalizer. But I feel it's better than alcohol.

No marijuana isn't all that bad! I think it should be legal, would save a lot of money prosecuting. The main problem is if you are smoking it around your kids. It is no worse then say alcohol or cigarettes. And btw I prefer the buzz from booze over the buzz from pot.

Heavy or daily use of marijuana affects the parts of the brain that control attention, memory, and learning. A working short-term memory is needed to learn and perform tasks that call for more than one or two steps.
Smoking marijuana causes some changes in the brain that are like those caused by cocaine and heroin. Some researchers believe that these changes may put a person more at risk of becoming addicted to other drugs, such as cocaine or heroin. Scientists are still learning about the many ways that marijuana could affect the brain.

It is disgusting why in the world would you want to do something like that to you body.

I agree with you 100%, but ANYTHING can be bad in excess or if you let it take control of your life.THINK about your choices and thier consequences BEFORE you make a decision regarding doing anything; especially anything illegal;listen to your gut instinct. Best wishes!

i don;t think much would change if it were legalized

the potheads would still get it, people doing it to kind of stick it to the man would lose interest and the kids who weren't as big risk takers would try it, but probably wouldn't stick with it, so you'd lose some and gain some and it would balance out, drug dealers wouldn't sell it as much, but there are plenty of other illegal drugs to sell, which the rebellious kids would buy instead and the druggies would keep buying, so there wouldn't be any less drug dealers, so not much would change probably.

Until it's made legal here in the USA, it's breaking the law. It's a personal choice.
