I know I asked this yesterday.
I understand some people like quiet and more serene surroundings, four distinct seasons, very little hubbub, and a slower pace of life. Louisville is the only real urban center of Kentucky, and it's not really that large of a city. Otherwise, Kentucky is a very rural state that some dub as "boring," while others label it "hillbilly."
Regardless of its stereotypes and flaws, do you live there? Have you ever been there? Would you consider living there? Why?
I'm a native, so I know that the stereotypes about us aren't all true. But, I also know that I don't like it here. It's not very progressive economically, the small towns are very cliquish, and the people are by and large rude and impolite. I can compare, since I've already been to 20 states and a slew of major cities, and I'm just 21. I plan on moving to Texas next year!

I grew up in central Kentucky (near Lexington). While I would never go back and live there again, I love to visit. It is a gorgeous state with lots of different habitats and ecosystems. Basically, if you are outdoorsy at all, there's something for you there.
Actually, the whole reason that I left the state as soon as I could is because it has a tendency of sucking people in. I know many people who moved to KY with plans to leave after a year or so and they never got away. I also know lots of people who were raised there who are never going to leave. I find that second scenario sad. You need to leave your home state to get a greater world view that travel alone can't provide.
But I guess if so many people willingly stay there it can't be so bad.
As for you, personally, I think that you've seen to much and are too much of a city person to enjoy a lot of Kentucky. Really, if you are one of those people who just prefers large cities that really FEEL like large cities, there isn't a lot for you in Kentucky.
As for the rudeness, I don't feel that at all. Or maybe it's because I appreciate it when people are honest about their feelings toward me. Right now I'm living in a place where people are nice on the surface, but underneath they are mean, cliquish and immature. It's just plain nasty. I hate that EVERYONE around me is so superficial, and when I go back to KY I appreciate even more that people let me know their feelings toward me or my behavior rather than finding out a week later from the cops or overhearing a friend of a friend of a friend.
Okay, sorry, I digress. I hope I made my point at least slightly clearly.

I grew up in Paducah Kentucky and couldn"t wait to leave. Then I lived in a town outside of Chicago and now 18 years later I'am still here near Chicago and it sucks compared to many parts of KY. It didn't take me long to discover sometimes the grass is not always greener or blue HA ! HA ! If you don't get that Kentucky is the bluegrass state. Anyway my Mom still lives there and if I didn't have a family of my own I would too. By the way your right Cadiz and everywhere around the lake you can find lots of friendly people. Everyone who has ever gone home with me to Ky. wishes they could move there, The only thing stopping most is finding a job that pays anywhere near what they make here.

Don't quit your day job to sell real estate. How bad could Kentucky be? Even the Queen of England was at Churchill Downs for the Derby this year. The pictures shown on travel logs are beautiful. I know nothing about any of Kentucky's stereotypes and flaws. I'm happy and comfortable. living on the west coast. I have no desire to move, but I'd love to visit Kentucky, among several other states, someday.

I live in Portland, Oregon and I'm from Colorado. I can definitely see the difference between the 2. I think the people here are nicer and more open minded. If I visited anywhere which doesn't happen often I think I would like to go to a beach somewhere. Something different than what I see everyday.

My family from Kentucky brought fine horses to Missouri that are outstanding till this day. I would go back just to see the old home place and look up all my cousins.
Come to visit us in Texas as soon as possible. We have race tracks and horses here too

I like Kentucky. I once considered accepting a job near Louisville and when I checked into housing I couldn't believe how affordable it was.
