My daughter and bf have eleven turtles, as least six of which are red sliders. The oldest is currently 14, but she's been told they can live over thirty years.

Depends on the care they get. Most only live a few months because people don't realize how much care they truly need to thrive. With good care they can live 25-30 years. See www.austinsturtlepage.com for great RES care info.

In the wild, they can live about 20 years. In captivity, they have been known to live up to 40 years. It all depends on how they are cared for.

With proper care, they can live to be more than 25 years. Turtles can be a long tern committment, so keep that in mind.
