Read what you want to write, write what you love to read. That is the first and most important tip. Don't stop reading.

Then, buy some writing books such as the "Marshall Plan Workbook" off of Amazon.com, read them and use them.

Don't be afraid of criticism. You MUST have a very, very thick skin when people pick apart your "baby". If you can't take criticism, you will fail. I can't emphasize that enough. If nobody gives you any negative comments, you aren't showing it to the right people. (Hint: your mom will say how great it is, and so will your best friend, even if it really needs a lot of work)

Read what you write OUT LOUD, you will find lots of stuff that just doesn't sound right. Change it.

Keep on writing, and don't give up. Expect rejection, but still don't give up.

Research your information. If ,for instance, you are writing a fictitious story about a girl growing up in a carnival troupe, you`d want to research enough about them to be believable. Write what you feel comfortable with, what you know and are passionate about! Become your own just and honest critic. If you write a story that is pretty good, think how you can write it to be really great! Above all, write because you want to, HAVE to, and for the love of doing it. If you are good, the rest will come afterwards.

i tried finding publishers and in the process the internet wouldn't stop giving me tips! HMPH they think i can't write :( but the best tip would be two honestly write from your heart. when you write a story you give what's in your head life and share it with someone. you have to FEEL the story, everything you write down you have to expirience in you mind before it becomes real to the reader too. love your favorite characters like you do when reading and dislike all the bad guys even if you let them win a few times.
if you want tips on helping how to sit down for a period of time and actually WRITE instead of it being stuck in your head forever i have a few on that too. my friend has a big problem on that so i have to force him to but he asked me to because he REALLY wants to write. i have trouble transfering from paper to the computer but i'm getting better :)

First, keep a personal journal of your everyday experiences.
This will help you to become observant & introspective.
Record not only what happens, but how you felt about it.
Ask questions that you might later be able to answer.

Second, use every opportunity to write short paragraphs.
Letters to friends, over the Internet, newsletters for school or clubs, articles for community papers, etc.

1. read ALOT!
2. write alot
3. write wat you kno about. if you give a wrong fact, well, idk wat will happen
4. accept criticism
5. writing groups help alot too
6. sometimes, you have to stop writing, so yo u can read wat you wrote with a more criticall eye. you cant write and be critical at the same time.
7. never contradict yourself. if you talk about a guy having a fear of heights, and then put him up a tree unafraid without any explaination, it will never work out.
8. take breaks from writing sometimes.
9. one of my favorite authors writes 4 hours a day
10. write about wat interests you. if you dont like the topic, then the story wont work out.
11. have friends look at it. friends that tell you the truth. but dont have enemies, cuz theyll just say it sucks. friends may say its greeat, but they can also help you work out the bugs.

Show the readers, don't tell them.

For instance,
"John broke his stride to avoid want to stepping on a ladybug"
instead of
"John had a kind heart."
