If your parents don't know responsibility, how exactly would they teach it?

The state needs to get out of the business of teaching values and parents should be more responsible for their children. Today we have a system where the state is responsible for instilling values because too many parents fail to do their job. Parents should not have children if they are not prepared to do their job of raising them responsibly.

Every person is responsible,,,whether they are free or not...taking responsibility for ones actions...is not a about having freedom..its about understanding the rights of others and your own rights as well. Freedom,..or the lack of it can result from a person..disregarding the rights of others...if it were as easy as telling someone in school for example ...the right things to do and the wrong things to do...and people did as they were taught...their would be no need for prisons...as crimes would be non existent ...hope this helps

I think that should be taught in civics classes--there is no freedom without responsibility. So many people today feel that freedom is just their right, that they just have it coming and don't have to do anything.

And we are losing our freedoms today because we aren't taking responsibility as a nation, as people! Democracy requires participation!

I do think responsibility should be mostly taught in the home, like religion, morals, etc. etc. But as a free people, learning about what makes us free and a great nation and all that, we should also learn in school about our responsibility to govern ourselves.

Besides--what do you lean in jail? Only how valuable your freedoms were, once they're gone. Then it's too late!

George Bush isn't in Jail and he knows nothing about responsibility. And he learned little in school with a 1.8 GPA at Yale! He certainly knows nothing about the constitution!

I guess Scooter Libby will never have to lie anymore! Everyone knows it was Bush who leaked the name!

Tens of thousands of people are dying. And
the country is rotting at its core.

And the world, oh the world, the world
knows this degrading, deeply humiliating show cannot be canceled fast enough.

And you are worried about Cons being taught about responsibility! Why don't you start at the top? They see Bush lie, steal and commit crimes, and you want to teach them?

OK!

Sure. You have to include the family in this too, as schools and teachers have a pretty full plate as is. One should reinforce, not contradict the other, with prison acting the final 'school' to rehabilitate the offender back into a meaningful role in society if at all possible.

It would make for sense for your parents to teach you. When did it become the schools job? School is to teach you math, history, english, etc. Your parent should teach you right from wrong, responsibilty, etc.

Since they have built more prisons then schools in the last decade, I find it appropriate.
