Well, what usually happens is the sheriff leaves you the summons at your last known residence. If you fail to show up to the hearing by ignoring the summons, you lose the case with a summary judgment. Next they will file a motion for contempt if you don't pay!

Until the summons is served and it must be put in your hands they can not continue with the suit. I suggest you keep traveling and make sure no one accepts anything from the sheriff on your behalf. Don't let him know where you are, or whom ever cause they can serve you through a constable etc.

You can have a warrant placed for your arrest. If your ever pulled over you can be taken to jail. You can also be held in contempt of court for not appearing. Weather you like it not, it's never a good idea to avoid a warrant, a summons, a ticket or evade the police.

You can be cited for contempt of court. The sheriff has the right to pick you up and delivery you to the courthouse.
