i have a heavily wooded area in my backyard with countless trees and i want to make a path sort of like a nature trail. in the winter i went back there to see what was there and i found streams and a little water fall. i want to know how i would go on about doing this (making the trail) or if there are people to hire, because there will probably be some trees that need to be taken down.

Why not consider applying a natural mulch like sawdust or wood chips. If you need to cut down any undergrowth or trees, consider renting a chipper/shredder and using that recycled material!!

With paths smaller can be better, the biggest I would go is the width of a riding lawn mower path. The edges can be stone or nothing at all as for cutting down trees for a path I would stick to cutting the underbrush and small tree to clear the trail leaving the large trees as shade. Benches in the area can be a simple as some stack stones cleared from the path with middle sized trees cleared from the path. Try ti leave the grasses and other plant that are low growing on the trail as they will help keep the soil in place. Good luck with your project.

We had a trail throught our wooded lot when I was growing up. All we did was rake it to define the pathway. If you want to snip down saplings that would be easy and just leave the larger trees. Once the pathway is cleared it will be easy to see where to walk with or without the larger trees in place.

paths through the woods are always awesome. you can use stepping stones to make your path or you could try buying some meduim size rocks then put them down where you want the path to be. i probably wouldnt use sand, dirt or anything like that, because over time the weather is going to wash away that kind of stuff. you would probably have to redo the path each year if it is made of sand or dirt. if you use rocks to line you path or stepping stones then you will just have to do a little maintance every year to your path.
