I live in South Africa just so you guys know.
I tried to speak dutch but its hard.

Well its not useless if it is part of you and part of your heritage, and considering you know English as well then that makes you smarter than the average Joe !.
One of my friends comes from Pretoria and her accent is so nice, and quite sweet.
You could always use your knowledge of the Afrikaans language to your advantage as an interpreter and make some extra money ?.

I am Dutch and i can speak Dutch. It's not useless. You can come over to the Netherlands and you can understand many things.

Can't speak it, but I can understand it if I concentrate, because I have modern Dutch from living in the Netherlands, even though I'm not Dutch by birth.

I cannot speak it but it is your language and therefore NOT useless. I am Half French Canadian and had to learn French, a relatively useless language, but it is my culture's language so it is important!

Well, its very similar to dutch so I am sure it is not completely useless...Try going to Holland ( if never been ) and I am sure you will love your language just fine.Doooi!

erm i cant, but i speak a pretty useless language...turkmen, now how the hell has even heard of that?? lol d/w bout it though, its makes it easier for me to learn other languages =]

I've met people who speak it...it is hardly useless...it "exercises" the brain to learn/know/use more languages...it will keep your brain younger...
