I have an EVGA 7950 GT (512 MB) video card and a 7900 GT (256 MB) video card. I need to know if I can couple these together in SLI for better performance? I thought I had heard that any cards in the same series could be coupled in SLI mode and I dont care if Im forced to use only 256 MB of RAM or if they run at the slowest speed between the 2 cards.

If it is possible, can anyone tell me how to do this please? I have the SLI bridges from both cards, do I need both and which card and which of the 2 DVI slots (as there are 2 per card) do I attach my monitor to?

Thanks a ton in advance for your answer and possibly saving me alot of money.

SLIing is only possible with cards of the the same GPU. Only another 7950 GT would work with yours (or 7900 GT with your other card) If I were you, I would send back the 7900 and purchase another 7950 GT. Much more performance. To install SLI, you need a motherboard with 2 PCI X16 slots Some motherboards require you to put a chip in a little port between the two, see your motherboard's manual for more information. After the cards are in, attach the SLI bridge that connects them. Next, plug the DVI cord into the first card on the back of your system (if horizontal, top card. if vertical, farthest left) Finall, install a SLI driver or pull one from the internet. Now, your ready to play!!!

PS: When SLIing, brand doesn't matter. If you try to SLI your EVGA card with any other brand 7950GT 512MB card will work fine. good luck!

No, the cards must be identical for SLI. With Crossfire you can connect different models of graphics cards.

You have to have the same amount of memory on each card

Usually if they have the same chipset...it will work... not to sure that those will run together.
