Hi,

I'm trying to network my laptop(wireless) to my wired Pc via a Zyxel P-660 D1 router, I can use the internet but when trying to find one or the other on workgroups, they can't seem to find each other.

Has anyone ever had any trouble with this sort of thing and knows how to resolve this problem.

Regards

Ok, first on both computers you need to enable file and printer sharing. Then name the workgroup on both computers to the same thing. Then you will need to place the two computers IP addresses in your firewalls exceptions list.

You might need to restart the computers after that and that should be it.

Things to check:
1) Both computers are under the same workgroup with different computer names - multiple workgroups should work, but one for home use is usually enough
2) The computers' network adapters have Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Printer Sharing checked in their properties
3) A folder on each computer has sharing enabled
4) A firewall is not blocking your internal network
5) NetBIOS is enabled (link provided below)

try to find the computer via
ip
ex
laptop is 10.10.10.2
your desktop is 10.10.10.3

go to start->run
and type exactly
\\10.10.10.2 and click ok
to see if you can find the laptop through the desktop..
if you do..
then there is a firewll blocking either both or one of the system ability to browse the network..
