Hi all...
I recently moved, and I used to have cable internet at my old place. My wireless router was working fine, but now that I switched to dsl at this new place, it doesn't seem to find a connection when I plug the modem into the router...
I've pretty much tried everything... I've tried resetting the router, unplugging it for a few minutes, but nothing's worked...
The wireless router I have is a Netgear WGR614.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

99% of the time the problem is the IP address assigned to the router. Typically DSL modems and wireless routers use the same IP, such as 192.168.1.1, which doesn't work. Log into your router from your browser...probably http://192.168.1.1 and change the IP address assigned to the router to something like 192.168.0.1

Ok, you have switched from Cable to DSL using the same router, but I hope you are not trying to use the same modem, as the cable and dsl modems are different.
Now you need to log into the router and chane the internet connection type from dynamic ip (cable) to PPPOE (DSL) and type in the ISP username and password. Save those settings and reboot the modem and router, that should do it...

Cable providers usually work with a mac address to provide access to internet; on the other hand DSL work with login and password to authenticate.
Please make sure that your modem is correctly configured (that's the one plugged to the dsl line), then make sure that both, the modem and the router see each other, using ping command.
Also try enabling DHCP for you to have an optimum configuration on your network adapter.

yes.... i'm using dsl with a router... a router will work with all broadband connections. routers just allow more than 1 computer to use the internet at the same time.

Netgear is notorious for failing after power has been removed and the system has cooled off. The wired ports normally still work, but you cannot get the wireless to work. I recommend the Linksys WRT54G router without speed boost. Just keep the firmware up to date for optimum operation.

I had the same problem when I switched internet providers. You have to call the company that makes your router and they have tech support. Sometimes they have to change isp's at their end. They will walk you through it and help you resolve the problem.
Go here and click on "support" or contact the company.

Set the firewall settings to medium - that might help - and then click "repair connection".
