The accident wasn't in Missouri, it was in Kentucky.
There are many stories going around as to what happened, but from what I've read, she was on their drop tower, named after Superman, as they went up the tower, a cable snapped. According to the news reports, the riders were supposedly trying to get the ride ops to stop the ride, but either they didn't hear them, or they ignored them, but when they got to the top of the ride, then dropped, the loose cable wrapped itself around Kaitlyn Lassiter's feet, severing both below the ankle.
According to a statement that was finally released by her parents this week, they were able to reattach her right foot, but not her left due to the injuries that were sustained. Her parents have also stated several times that they have yet to be contacted by anyone from the park as to how Kaitlyn is doing. She's in stable condition and is recovering at a hospital in Kentucky.

It wasn't a roller coaster, and it wasn't it Missouri. It was the Superman Tower of Power at Six Flags in Louisville, KY.

I heard about that the other day. I was told some type of chord broke off and it wraped around her leg as the ride went up. Then when it dropped her legs were basically ripped off. It was a very sad thing :(
