I'm rooting for the League to make it. As someone mentioned there have been many attempts at secondary leagues and none will ever be as good as the NFL. With the NFLE closing up shop, those guys on the edge of breaking through need a place to play. The Arena League doesn't cut it for me, reminds me to much of the XFL. I'd like to see the NFL get involved with every team having it's own farm club similar to baseball. I think you can still have quality football even if the best college players move on to the NFL. Besides, you can never have to much Football.

Sure, if it doesnt suck. But its going to suck. It will be a bunch of NFL washouts, Div II college guys who still want to keep playing, etc etc. I think most players would rather go play in the AFL than the AAFL if they got cut from the NFL, right now. Its going to be about as painful to watch as the XFL, I bet. The best it could ever hope to remain is a second-tier, basically, development league for the NFL.
What will be kinda interesting is seeing all the people who got suspended from the NFL, like Pacman and Ricky Williams and stuff, signing up with the AAFL. The new league wont be able to have the same standards of character as the NFL is now aspiring to, so instead of running to Canada they'll just go to the AAFL, who'll sign them for the one year contract just for the media attention it will bring them.
AAFL will come to mean the All-American Felons League

I agree that trying to follow the loyalty of collegiate towns is the best way to go with this rather than trying to compete directly for the attention in big cities with NFL teams. There are a lot of great college areas with rapid football fans who are fans of other state's pro football teams because they don't have the NFL.
Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee (they have the Titans, but not everyone in TN has bought into them), etc.
Part of what has made the NFL so great though is the historic rivalries, and that's going to be hard for them to replicate.

I think what they should do is make this league the equivalent to the farm leagues in baseball. Make it a place where you make a player better but not waste space on a pro roster. Thats what the AAFL should be. They even say on there they want to make it more like college ball.

No - second rate crap. I'm old enough to remember the USFL and the travesty that was.
