You can play football in the rain because most of the players don't even touch the ball. Half of the 'athletes' weigh 500 lbs. and just shove each other. The other half run routes and maybe catch a ball that's as big as their head. The worst job in the rain is the QB, but it is their job to learn to throw a football in bad weather. Footballs are large and have the stitch grip so it isn't all that difficult to throw when wet, it's really just more of an adjustment.

Baseball cannot be played in the rain because it's a game of finesse. The ball is smaller than a player's hand and the throws have to be precise, which is nearly impossible when the ball is wet. Also a baseball will become waterlogged in the rain unlike a football. And again, since the ball is so small it is very difficult to see in the rain especially if you're in the outfield. Also in baseball the infield is dirt and the mud will make it nearly impossible to run. Large puddles will also form and make the field like an obstacle course and the game will become a joke.

You only provide two possible answers to your own question. Is it too dangerous, or are the players afraid to get wet. Why didn't you allow for the possibility of other explanations??? It seems that you already have your mind made up, so I won't bother going into depth with a proper synopsis of why the game of baseball isn't played in the rain.

Well they are holding up aluminum bats that are dangerous to be holding while there is any lightning, and the baseball gets slippery and actually absorbs water becoming a lot heavier. It also makes the game a lot less fun to watch because the players make more mistakes, while in football its great watching the games in the snow and the rain because they get tackled and thrown around in it and your constantly moving keeping yourself warm while in baseball you at a standstill getting cold and wet/

Well I don't know if they're girle-men or not ut they do make way way more money than football players. So from a bussines stance it makes sense to the owners. And I do think it is somewhat of a girly sport unlike football. But to each his own, right? Personally, I love football, I played for over 12 years and I think more so than any other sport it is an allogory to life. Just watch the movie Any Given Sunday with Al Pacino. Maybe they stop playing because of the danger of getting hit in the face or head with the ball if they slip.

Those seem like some pretty good reasons up there ^

Things have changed a lot in the past couple decades regarding playing in the rain.

Nowadays they pull out the tarp as soon as a drizzle starts. It has traditionally been an umpire's call (and technically, may still be so) but the Player's Union and owners probably have some agreement.

In years past there have been many Dodger-Giant games played during downpours in Candlestick. . . including some memorable moments.

The ball gets wet and can not be thrown correctly. The infield gets muddy and the mud also gets on the ball. Football can be played regardless of the rain, they just can't throw as well. Where as baseball everything requires throwing.

Many reasons. The ball is slippery and hard for the pitcher to control. It's hard to see the ball and the batter is in danger of getting hit. The bat is hard to hold and may fly out of the batters hands. All of these things may lead to serious injury. The risk of injury is not increased by rain in a football game.

Because the slippery mud and the baseball can get all wet and the pitchers might accidently keep on beaming the ball at the batters .

In football you can break your arms, cast them up and play the next day. That doesn't seem like a sport to me.

Baseball requires more precision and dexterity than any other sport. In football you can slop around all game because that's all that's going on anyway.

They don't play baseball in the rain because they put a tarp over the field and it would be hard to tell where the base is.
