I was raised to respect older people but yes you are right and nowhere have I seen this more prevalent than in Sun City outside Phoenix AZ. It is a huge retirement [city} . I thought I had seen rude but I found myself wanting to strangle some of them, so yes you are right.

Most old people I've met (quite a few, I look after them) are actually very grateful for any help they get.
Old people often have hearing problems, if you can't hear properly, you raise your voice (put headphones on and test it yourself).
If you can't hear your own voice, you assume that it's not there, so you try harder.
As for queuing, they possibly don't want to waste a second of what little time they have left as an independant person standing behind us.
They've probably worked for most of their lives, brought up a couple of new generations and possibly think they have earned a few small perks like queue-jumping.
Some of them might have had bombs raining down on their heads when they were your age, or people in their 80s and 90s might have actually fought Hitler to give you the freedom to gripe. Put up with it, you'll be their age before you know it.
By the way, despite the grey hair, I'm only 41. I've been going grey since I was nine years old. Being grey, I'm often treated as though I was a pensioner. Imagine the shock when I answer back instead of accepting such disrespect.

Why are you stereotyping a whole group of people? Some elderly are rude. Some are well mannered, some are shy, some can't make their little voices heard in the crowd. And some of the younger persons push them out of the way to get waited on out of turn. Just like everyone else.
So what?

Try walking in their shoes.
Their handicapped and have trouble walking, walking from
about 1/2 arcoss the parking lot, watch 3 teens with no health problem get in to cars parked in hanicapped spaces.
THey have trouble breaking but have to walk thru a cloud of smoke to get thru the front door. You get thru the front door and some kids running around bang into you.
The clerk tells you the item you want is all the way to the back of the store. You get there and ask, the cleck says
oh I guess we are out, check back tomorrow, maybe it will be on tonights truck
You walk back to the front of the store, some kid is banging into your ankles with a cart, you leave your cart, back thru a cloud of smoke, watch 3 or 4 more teen drivers leave the handicapped parking spots, finally get back to your car and oxygen before it's too late.
Remember guys like me, did the orginal computer and modems so you can have the stuff today

My dear, regardless of what you think of us "old" People..........sometimes rude, sometimes impatient, and sometimes grouchy.........I want to speak in behalf of us all>>>We're really sorry and don't mean to offend or hurt anyone. Please forgive us, when that happens! Many of us feel we are on the downhill side of Life, and No One Really Cares, any more. Trust me. (It is a very weird feeling.) That is no excuse, But now You Know. (smile)

Most everybody is rude today............
and those who aren't either become rude due to having to deal with the rude types, or are stern.

They like sucking on hard sweets and smell faintly of burnt cabbage.
And have an inbuilt fear of children walking on their lawns.
