To me, life is a flowing wave of water because you can't stop time, and it's like a river that runs on and on. Life goes on even though we make mistakes and occasionally stumble over rocks in the course of living. Sometimes the days pass by slowly, like an ocean's waves lapping upon the shore, and sometimes life moves quickly, like wild river rapids with excitement at every turn. I love your question!

Life is a precious grain of sand moved and shaped by the flowing water that is the energy of life. The grain of sand does not stay in one place, but moves in time and space, experiencing all around it and changing with each lesson learned. As each grain of sand moves and changes, so changes the flow of water. The water affects the sand, the grains of sand collectively affect the water flow and the ripple of the water.

Actually, neither. The great scientists, physicists, astronomers and cosmologists have concluded that we humans may well be the most complex and intelligent form of life in the Universe. But saying that does not mean an individual is 'The Universe', as the former is so microscopic compared to the vast outer space, out there. Nor should we be a piece of inanimate matter like the grain of sand, for that will make us lifeless and insignificant. So my life is viewed as a small cog in the huge wheel of Life, the Universe. I do not place a huge importance on myself nor degrade myself to almost nothingness. I would not even imagine i am God or a grain of sand, for that thinking would drive me crazy, straight away. I shall try to seek the middle-way, instead. As one of God's creatures, I just go with the flow of other living humans and try to live in harmony with them, including the animals and the plants. That would be a healthier, wiser, and more realistic approach.

In my opinion, life is a combination of the two. The grain
of sand has an advantage over the drop of water because
the water will evaporate. The body of water has an
advantage over the landscape of sand because the
water moves efficiently with its fluid viscosity. Water
for motion and sand for foundation.

A life is a cherish-able grain of sand in an ocean of life. What makes it what it is, is that it is, but who it is, may be the difference of death from life.

I believe it is a flowing wave of water because it is constantly changing but will never cease to flow.

In response to both of your questions..
...is that that which makes life what it is...is the same thing that makes life BOTH of these at the same time....and much more...
...is simply...
...the existence of potential of the unlimited possibilities that each each life possesses -- or represents....past, present and future.
..that which we perceive or experience as "life" is the literal, symbolic and eternal enbodiment of this limitless potential...
...and it is the 'intutive' perception of this fact that makes life so preciouis to us...and not, when this perception is 'lost'...
