im thinking he will quit once he gets his 800th homerun, cause bonds is a very egomaniacal person and would relish the fact that he is the only member of the 800 hr club until a-rod destroys him

His last year 2007. After he breaks the record he has no use to play. Giants only signed him so they could get the glory of him breaking the record in a Giants uniform.

He retires after the 2008 season, with about 780 HRs and 3000 hits.

After he breaks the record this year, all that will be left for him to accomplish is winning a World Series. The Giants aren't going to win one this year or next, so Bonds will only get it if he gets traded this year or signs with another team next season. I could see him come back next season just for this.

if he breaks the record this year, i won't be surprised if this is his last season. Now still even saying that he becomes a free agent after this year is up.
He could in theory play one more season after this one but only in the AL. Most likely he would end up being the DH probably for a team like the angels or something. He wants to go into warmer weather where his knees won't hurt as much, like as he is resting for todays game.
But he will probably play another season it just won't be for the giants

He's definitely playing next year too, sorry haters. he's said he wants 3000 hits, and he can't get that this year because pitchers are still too afraid to pitch to him.
My guess is he gets 3000 next year, then realizes he'd like to take a shot at the runs and RBI totals too. He'll get the runs but not the RBIs, by playing 2 more full seasons after this one.

If he breaks the record this season, then I think that he'll retire, but if he doesn't, then I'm sure he'll go 1 more season... I hope with the SF Giants, cuz that's the only place he gets love and respect. Besides, it's also my rootin' team! Go Giants...
