I am doing a survey of at least fifty people (preferably more) for part of my final project as an English Major. I am investigating how home and place are articulated by a variety of writers and how this affects their sense of self.

Home is -- the place you can go when you have no place else TO go.
Home is where, when you go there, they have to take you in.
(check out the poem Death of a Hired Man)
Home is where your heart is. (I know that is a cliche, but it is still true.)
Home is where you lived as a child, where you felt safe and happy. When you become an adult -- with a spouse, kids, and /or pets, and your own stuff, you make a new home.
You put down roots in your home. In a home town, people know you and you know them.

They develope character(the people and environment around you) and provide you with unique feelings which play a role in the way writing is built and expanded. Inspiration and the sense of self affects the way writers committ to their writing. Such as when a writer has a block, they might sleep to get rid of it.

Home is where there is an prolong emotional attachment to a specific area or place.
Although I reside in Hopkins Minnesota, the place I consider home is Stillwater Minnesota which is 45 mins away. I grew up in stillwater and I graduated in stillwater.

Home is where the heart is. Home is where u can be urself. Home is where u retreat to after the events of the day. home is where u keep ur stuff. for me, home is Portland, Dorset, UK. Hope this helps.
