without years make and model a complete answer is not possible. not all vehicles use vacuum with the AC.
of the ones that do it is use only to open and close vents.
on those vehicles that use vacuum control it runs from manifold vacuum source to a vacuum accumulator then it to the heater/ AC control switch to be directed the the correct vacuum motor to open / close the correct vent doors. some vehicles will also have a one way check valve in the vacuum lines before the accumulator and some have it built into the accumulator. without the check valve / accumulator the doors will open / close during acceleration and air won't go to the correct location during that time.
