sorry i meant weedwhacker. the flowers already bloomed this year and all that was left were the leaves and stems.

They will recover and return. My irises are over 60 years old, belonged to my great-grandmother, and have been dug up and moved three times. In their lifetime, they have been mowed, stomped on, laid on by dogs, run over by vehicles, and even scattered by a small tornado (lots of those here in Oklahoma). Some people even intentionally cut their irises back. Irises are tough.

Iris leaves and flowers come out of a root that looks a bit like an onion, They are called tubers. As long as no critters get in to chew up or cause other mayhem, those tubers will put leaves and flowers back on just as they are programed to do. Keep on eye on whatever part is left. If you see lots of little bugs starting to take up residence, spray with a mixture of 2 parts vinegar and 1 part salt to kill those bugs.

In fact my got weed wacked to this year as they were coming up. I was upset needless to say, but they came on up anyway.
And bloomed beautiful. I cut them down earlier every year some time after they bloom, they always come back.
This also happened last year too. No matter what I tell my gardener is still happens.
They even chopped down my new Holly's.they came back too.

Your Irises will be fine , I just moved some & we always cut them back to give them a good start . I would cut what's left on a slant a few inches obove the tubers . .

no big deal. just treat them to some light fertilizer. Many folks clip them back after the blooming season anyway. Just keep up good growing conditions and all will be well.

i are not getting why you think of skating and surfing is "youngster" stuff- there isn't any reason you won't be able to be in contact in activities pat 19, this is purely ridiculous. 20 isn't previous, the only new element is which you have greater accountability and older human beings start to understand you greater. you could still have exciting.

yes, as long as you still have the bulbs. Cover the bulbs w/a good rich humus rich soil and water well, they should come back w/no problems.....and tell the friend to keep his weed-wacker away from your garden.

The iris will grow back next year. . .what is important is the bulb. . .if that is ok, the plant is ok.
