Can I run antispyware from http://www.superantispyware.com. I have on my machine the above Ad-Aware plus Windows Defender, and Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Took as well as AVG Anti-Virus and AVG Anti-Rootkit from Grisoft.com, together currently with Windows Firewall, but soon to try again Zone Alarm. Am I getting too security conscious?

Thank you everyone who has answered so far.

JTB, can you let me know if it would be OK to install Zone Alarm with the programmes I have on here, please? I had a problem with ZA and uninstalled due to a security alert that disconnected internet access and wondered if this was a conflict? I have received what I think is a good answer re disconnection by Zone Alarm, but maybe you can confirm that it would still be safe to install again, please. Thank you.

Only have one antivirus program and one firewall installed on your computer.

"Microsoft recommends that you have only one anti-virus program installed on your computer."
Anti-adware/malware/spyware are ok to have more of.

The things you have is good enough but you can have SUPERAntiSpyware Free.
http://www.superantispyware.com/ also.

I recommend using ZoneAlarm as FW and not Windows FW.

Yes and also it is a very good idea, some spyware will pick up on what others miss. Don't bother with defender, it finds sweet FA. Scan with Ad-Aware, then SuperAntiSpyware and just as a back up use Spybot, free from download.com. It is good to be security concious, but if you are that worried get rid off AVG stuff. Try Trend Micro PC-cillin 2007 free 30 day trial or Norton. Both will cost about £34, but are very good AV's, and PC-cillin uses its own firewall so needs windows firewall off to run, it is better. Remember you only get what you pay for, free AV's and even MacFee are not reliable.

Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE

Lavasoft Adaware runs on demand and won't clash with anything. It misses some things though, and you could add Spybot S&D. Windows defender doesn't clash with things, though it doesn't catch much either. I use emisoft asquared which seems quite good. In general you can have many "on-demand" programmes, but only one each of firewall and anti virus.

If you install ZoneAlarm it will automatically disable Windows Firewall.

You can still get infected by malware even with all that stuff installed. Things BHO (browser help objects) which attach themselves like parasites to your browser and tojans (fake programs) can still get through, as can spam and phising emails.

You are going WAY overboard here... STOP some will conflict and cause you more problems. Keep Defender, Keep AVG and run Ad-Aware when you want but you don't need any more it just slows your machine and doesn't do any good.
Be sure to keep up to date definitions.

If you want to double check run an online scan every once and awhile. Like http://housecall.trendmicro.com etc but don't overload your machine.

Sounds just right. I have a bit more than you, but I hate infectons. I have a tad of OCD. XD Just dont let a NORTAN product enter your PC and you will be fine.

the problem is if you install too many security programs they start working against each other it is best to just have one anti-spy and one anti virus. maclaren.
