i was watching the old version of the movie and i herd that it was bases off of a true story. sooo...what is the true story?

Summerishere is right. That is exactly the true story.
There was a family murdered by the oldest son.
Then the Lutz Family bought the house. Less than a month later, they came running out in the middle of the night and told the story of blood coming out of the walls, floors & sinks and the other stuff indicated in the movie. The house is buried over an old Indian burial ground...lol But everybody knows the indians didn't know the words 'Get Out!'....LOL!

It's a fake story. The events that happened BEFORE the Lutz family moved in were real though. The oldest son of the Defeos killed everyone in the family late at night while they were sleeping. The Lutzes admitted they made stuff up about the house like weird sh it going on. There was no evil pig or ancient Native American burial ground under the house or anything like that, but for some reason, the family only lived there for 28 days and left.

that is the true story...I don't think they altered any of it in the movie. You can even get a tour of the amityville house, my friend's mom did and she said it was very eerie.

family lived their. a brother said he came home and his sister killed everyone and they started to fight over the gun and it went off and killed her.
there is lot more to it.but that's the jest of it.

yes,it's true that there was house, and it is true that people were shot to death in the house. after that, it's sheer baloney.
