i had to clean my pc, when i tried to use my product key it wouldnt work, what do i do

either call microsoft and tell them, or buy a new product key and cd

most likely you've reinstalled Windows multiple times and activated it several times in a short amount of time... now it won't let you activate... or you're trying to use your product key with a CD that has a version of WIndows other than the one your product key is made for. if the first is true - call microsoft and they'll help you with activation... if the second is true, you need to get a CD with an version of Windows that corresponds with your product key (eg. Windows XP Home key, and a Windows XP Home CD)

If your CD is genuine the product key should work.
At what stage of installation the product key is needed ?.

See if you have the product key that is on the outside of your computer on a sticker and try using that one

It is unlikely that such a problem should occur, although it can happen. Try formatting your partition where you have installed XP, then reistall. If the product key stll does't work, you should definately contact microsoft
