Ok for all you whiners and criers here is why this action is wrong! There are constitutional guidelines that must be followed according to law. The person must serve SOME time in jail, He also must exhaust all other means of remedy like appeals. At this point the president can" legally commute or pardon the sentence. This was not done and the law was broken!

Impeachment should not be on the table for the Libbby deal instead it should be on the table for the Agent Ramos and Compean deal. If ever there was a time to commuate a sentence or pardon someone its Ramos and Compean. These two hero border patrol agents are in prison for DOING THEIR JOBS in protecting us from an illegal alien drug dealer. Apparently the only mexicans bush doesnt want to give amnesty to are Compean and Ramos

No. Under Article II, Section 2 of the United States Constitution, the President's ". . . Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment . . .," is plenary.

The exception in cases of impeachment means, for example, that the impeachment in 1988 by the House of Representatives of current Florida Congressman Alcee Hastings, then a sitting Federal judge, on charges of bribery and perjury, and his subsequent conviction by the Senate and removal from office as a Federal judge, could not have been prevented, nullified, or undone by a presidential pardon.

The Constitution specifically states the President of the United States can pardon ANYONE!!!!!!! including a President that was going to be impeached. When Ford pardoned Nixon, no one was crying about impeachment. The only probably with pardoning people is that it may add a blight to one's career. ie..Ford's pardon Nixon, Clinton's pardons where he may have been given money for them.

I do agree that what happened should not have taken place. Libby lied while under oath and he should have went to prison. But, the President does have the right to pardon whom ever he chooses. If you are looking to impeach President Bush over this, than maybe President Clinton should have been impeached as well. Just a thought.

WHAT DEAL??? The poor guy has been a sacrificial lamb for the White house to keep the heat off them.Scooter has to pay a $250,000 fine and has probation to serve for Christ's sake!!!And who do you want to impeach and why? Bush should have done the RIGHT thing for Scooter and issued him a FULL and UNCONDITIONAL pardon...if THAT'S the reason to impeach the president,I would NOT consider it.

Because the president isn't allowed to pardon people? If so, Clinton should have been impeached over and over again.

Wrong again. The President's pardon power is established under the United States Constitution, Article II, Section 2:

The President ... shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment.

Although there have been several attempts at amendments to limit the president's power to pardon, they have all failed. The power remains broad and in the original wording of the writers of the constitution. There are no limitations, procedures or steps that the president has to make except to put it on paper. There are no guidelines.

Why? They convicted him of something that had nothing to do what they were questioning him about and the guilty party is walking free for outing someone who was not even covert. I'm trying to understand how this is an impeachable offense how? The President is well within his rights to commute a sentence or to even have granted a full pardon.

Impeachment should have been on the table a very long time ago. But now maybe it will get on the table that much quicker.

A pardon or commutation by a president is not an impeachable offense.
Read your constitution.

No. Idiot Bush was acting within his rights as president to commute his sentence. there are other reasons why impeachment should be on the table, but this is not one of them. It shows arrogance, cronyism, and a lack of character and guts, but it isn't illegal.
