So your computer is humming along, disk drive chirping and everything seems happy, but the screen stays dark? (If you're not sure, could try to hook the laptop to an external screen or projector.) If that's the case, then you know the problem is with the screen itself, but there could still be a lot of possible reasons. The backlight may be out, or a connector could have come loose, etc. It's not something you're going to be able to fix yourself, so just take it to the repair store. Be prepared to be dismayed, because if they want to replace the whole screen that's going to cost nearly as much as a new laptop. Unless you're still under warranty, you may be SOL. Good luck!

Sounds like the bulb is blown in the laptop screen. Not an easy DIY repair...very difficult and takes a lot of patience. I would send it in for repair.

Unplug battery and all wires except AC adapter and try it again in safe mode with a fan. For further step, need skills to detach LCD, clean all oxidized connectors. Maybe also need to test inverter's output before replacing a new LCD.
