They are two different things. Firecrackers are the things that make a lot of noise. Fireworks make the pretty light designs in the air.

I call the things that blast up into the air Fireworks I call the things that blast on the ground firecrackers

depends. firecrackers are a specific type of fireworks. fireworks is a broad spectrum of things including, rockets, roman candles, sparklers, fountains, cherry bombs, and the good old fashioned firecracker.

We call firecrackers "firecrackers" and when we have a lot of different stuff we call that "fireworks".
