We were in the Ethical issues of the Computers and the Internet class and we were discussing the topic about copyrights and protected materials and such, and a question arose during the discussion. If someone had an idea of a program or something else, when would you say that the idea or work is creative? We suggested that this work had never been seen before and there is no other work like it, but the prof told us that wasnt the case...so what do you think? When would you call a work or an idea creative? Whats your definition of the creative work?

The concept of novelty is important to patents. For your process to be worthy of patent it has to not only be your original thought, but never have been done before by anyone else ever. Your prof has a better idea of what constitutes "prior art" in the computer field, and he may just be saying its been done before.

The mind rapidly assembles pieces of information to form a solution. The solution may be an answer to a problem, filling gaps in a process, eliminating waste of material or energy, or reassembly of information to produce an application needed. An objective as to what is missing or needed forms in the mind, the mind starts filling in the missing puzzle pieces until an intelligible picture forms. There is often a sensation of having the solution but having to think the process backwards to fill in missing steps. Creative thinking in writing is different, and it happens too fast at and a more linear level to describe. Creative expression in art is also difficult to describe, since it is the expression that I notice, not the thinking that precedes it. In art, I often have the sensation that the image is creating itself.
