I think it is more because the British have called themselves Brits for a long time. When have you heard a Sakistani call themselves a Paki. We have taken to shortening most everything in our language and we sometimes do not notice things that might be offensive to others.

Depends very much in the way it is said.

Paki is considered an offensive term because it has been used to isolate and demean people of asian origin. To the best of my knowledge, nobody has ever used the word "Brit" in the same manner.

the connotations and meaning behind the words are what differentiate them. People dont say 'paki' in a nice or general way, they say it to cause offense and 'brit' is not used in this way.

A 'brit' is a Brittish person by heritage or lineage. A 'paki' is a Pakistanian person by heritage or lineage.

Just another label.

Go and live in the Northern province of Pakistan and you'll find that being called a Brit is not just a term of abuse, but a threat.

The White British coined the term, using it derogatively many decades ago. That is the difference!

Its very simple, I am of Pakistani origin and I find the word paki highly offensive. I hear that white people find the phrase white trash to be offensive which is why I DON'T USE IT.

Get it?
