Get it out of Iraq? Cut the deficit? Improve health care? Address the looming medicaid/SS crisis? Improve the VA? Cut taxes for the poor and middle class and increase taxes for the wealthy and the corporations? Start x-raying the cargo than comes into the U.S. by ship? Since the Republican congress did NOTHING except convene a special Saturday session for Terri Shiavo, any activism would be an improvement. President Bush had 6 years of total power in Congress and wasted it. If the Democrats haven't accomplished what they want yet, it's not for lack of trying. Every positive action has been vetoed by the President and the Democratic majority is too slim to override the veto.

If we don't elect GOOD people, be they democrat or republican, our lives will not get better, only the lives of people we elect will get better. As long as the people vote for a candidate because he or she is a republican or democrat and NOT because they stand for what YOU believe in, neither party will make our country better. We have to learn to vote for the person & not for the party. Not every democrat is always right or always wrong. The same thing applies to a republican. We have dumbed ourselves down by listening to talk radio & watching the stupid, so called, "news" programs". Learn what the candidates believe in, what their voting record is, etc. Make your decision on what you have learned, not what some talking head drills into your brain every day.

I think that's a fair question. I'm not a Democrat or Republican, I'm independant, so don't think I'm defending or bashing either party.
Historically (at least since Nixon), Democrats have gotten into less trouble than Republicans. Reagan and both Bushes did lots of illegal stuff. Carter didn't. Clinton was accused of a lot but none of the accusations were proven (except Monica, and in the whole scheme of things that's pretty minor).
My observation is that the Republicans make a better opposition party because they keep the Democrats honest, they keep them in line. But when the Republicans come to power, the Democrats don't do as good of a job of keeping the Republicans in line.
Look at the situation today. The Bush administration is totally out of control. They act like laws just don't matter, laws just don't apply to them. Even Republicans now are starting to be unhappy with the Bush admin. because Bush is not just destroying his own legacy, he's damaging the reputation of the whole party. You don't hear any of the Republican candidates saying 'Bush is a GREAT president! Elect me and I'll be just like him!' as they do with Reagan.
Now it's generally perceived (you might not agree but this is the way a lot of people see it) that the people put the Democrats in power in Congress in '06 to rein in the Bush admin., to restrain them, to keep them in line. As you can see, the Democrats are not doing a great job of that. Bush doesn't believe in congressional oversight of the executive branch.
No Democratic president will be able to get away with what the Bush admin. is getting away with. ANY Democratic president will be less corrupt, and more responsive to the people, even if he (or she) doesn't do as good of a job as we might like.

They'll steal all the money from the rich and redistribute some of it to the poor. Thus, eliminating the upper and lower classes and creating one huge middle class. This will make every one feel "all warm and fuzzy" because we all be equal. Then they will take over all the businesses, those evil corporations....Oh wait isn't that what they did in Russia, when the communists took over and it became the Soviet Union? Didn't that little economic experiment fail drastically? I knew the Democrats' had no original ideas...but I guess if you think that long lines for bread and toilet paper rationing will make the USA better then by all means please vote Democrat in 08.

The best way for Democrats or any politicians to make our lives better is simply to stay out of our lives.

I would hope that they would get the Democrats out of our personal lives. I am sick and tired to our government trying to legislate morality.

The government knows far better how you should live your life than you do and the Democrats know that.
For instance, all burning of fossil fuels will cease. We can do better with pedal power.
