Don't confuse frightening and evil.

A wounded tiger is also frightening.

Kali is the fiercer side of the Light. She's a warrior, yes. But she used her power to storm the gates of hell and defeat all evil.

Directly after that battle, her victory dance was so ferocious it threatened to tear the world apart. Siva, seeing this, appeared suddenly in hell, lying on his back with his eyes closed, pretending to be one of the many slain demons lying about.

When Kali's dance brought her close she stepped on Siva, and looking down she saw his serene face beneath her foot. So great was her remorse that she halted her dance, thus saving the world a second time that day.

Kali is good. She is the fierce aspect of the Divine Mother. Some of Her children need a little more force in order to start behaving and display good qualities.

A good example of illustrating this. Let's say there is a cow on your front yard eating your plants. If you ask the cow to go away in a gentle voice "Go, go, go." It won't budge. If you display and show a bit of anger with a very loud and stern voice "GO GO GO!!!!" then the cow will finally leave.

Some of our egos are like that. It can be stubborn and not listen. So Kali helps us diminish our ego by being fierce with us. She is Divine Mother with a spanking spoon.

Doesn't a mother sometimes have to be firm and a disciplinarian in order to get her children to listen and stop misbehaving? That's who Kali is. All that Kali does for us is out of Her love for us.

The images of Kali may seem fierce to you. It is all symbolic. Not all frightening images mean it is something bad. Is a skull something horrible? We're all made of skulls and skeletons. It's the truth. It's what we're made of. It's the mental projection of it that makes something seem fearful.

There is also a very loving side of Kali. It can be experienced. She is not all fierce. She is Shakti and Love too.

Kali is not really "good" or "evil." Sometimes with Pagan religions, it's hard to categorize things as easily as in Judeo-Christian religions. Kali is about destruction, but not in a bad sense. Only through destruction of the old can you make way for the new. She's an integral part of the cyclical nature of the universe.

Kali Maa is very loving, compassionate and benevolant.
Kali killed a demon and drank his blood (cause every drops falling on the soil became clones of the demon) and became drunk on the demon's blood, She became crazy, She wanted to kill everything even to put an end to the earth. But Shiva acted Himself as a corpse, and when Kali Maa realized She killed Shiva, She gained back Her healthy mood. Since then Kali is the loving mother. Her frighting face is only to scare demon. Durga is Kali, but every demons was falling in love with Durga, cause She is so beautiful. So Durga became so ugly, that She could win over the demons.

What do you mean? Kali-Yuga or Kali-Maa? Kali Yuga is bad, but Kali-Maa is very, very good. Without the mercy of Kali-Maa, you cannot approach Lord Vishnu, the Bestower of Liberation. Illusion will disturb you unless Kali-Maa gives you permission for liberation.

There is a very great avatar of the modern day who was a devotee of Kali Ma. If you truly wish to know more about Kali Ma then you must learn more about her greatest devotee. His name was Ramakrishna Paramahansa. He was known for his absolute devotion to Truth, thus everything that he said can be believed. He was a true knower of God, and many people worshipped him as God Incarnate. If you ever need to call on God for help, you may pray to Ramakrishna and your prayer will be answered. I know this because I have done it.

Highest energies have no form: formless takes form and becomes ~ in this case ~ a Goddess; the next level down ~
She is good ...
She is a Goddess = good
She has her task to perform: she saves People (as opposed to Gods)
She descends from higher realms and interacts with People ...
However, she is prone to the vicissitudes of the atmosphere where she lives ... and sometimes 'loses it' ... but Gods can help each other, hence Shiva's intervention ... he had to save her from her weakness and set her firmly on the right road
