If Favre would have had a top notch receiving corps like Montana or Marino, and played in weather like California or Miami instead of the worst stadium in the league for quarterback stats, would he have all the records out of reach by now? Or, do they keep making rule changes to help offenses so guys like Manning would pass him eventually anyway? Thoughts?

Sean - wasn't that the year BEFORE the Bears won the Bowl? And the game played in S.F.? Or was it two games a coupla years apart with almost identical scores?

Beldin - I don't have to assume. I have watched religiously since 1969, and all fims of guys before that. I have NEVER seen someone thread the needle at 60 yds. like Favre. I do assume that you are an internet tough guy- not a real one!

Elway had the three amigos sweetheart. And a good stock of runningbacks like Steve Sewell who was one of the best 3rd down receivers in the league. Ever hear of shannon sharpe, easy ed mccaffery?

BM - two words Duper/Clayton.
Favre can still play - the Packers have let him down mightily the last few years.

Sharpe was Favre's only great receiver, and they only had a 3-4 years together. Montana had John Taylor (better than Rice for a few years there!) Dwight Clark, Brent Jones, Craig and Rathman- GREAT receivers out of the backfield - and more! Maybe the best group of receivers ever!

D7 are you nuts? Do you think he would want Randy Moss if he still wanted to be in the spotlight. He wants to win plain and simple. Favre is the best ever. He could have played great for any team. The Packers and their fans couldn't have asked anymore from him. The only way any QB will match his records is if they don't get hurt. And that is saying alot.

Elway played in Denver in some very awful weather, and had fewer offensive weapons for many many years, and still made it happen for those weak teams and had terrific stats(does anyone else remember when Sammy Winder was Elway's best offensive weapon?). He also had the dignity to know when to hang up his jock.
No, I don't think they are making rule changes so guys like Manning pass him eventually, but it is the Favre-centric mentality (like the NFL has nothing to do but conspire against big Brett) that drives the crazy keeping Favre on the field.
Marino and Montana had some weapons and some nice weather, but arguably it was Marino and Montana that helped make those receivers great. They knew the importance of team and not being an *ss to one of the best receivers on the team (circa Javon Walker last year).
Keep making excuses for him. Brett was very good in his own right, and his longevity and heartiness are what make him great--but not his pure talent as a QB.
P.S. Three amigos were bogus, and I am not your sweetheart. AND funny, you think Shannon Sharpe was an offensive weapon and his brother wasn't? Ed Mccaffery? LOL, yeah, he's better than Donald Driver. You've been inhaling WAY too much cheese.

I seen Montana and the 49'er's come to Chicago when it was 5 degrees and beat the Bears 28-3. That was a year after the Bears won a Super Bowl. I have a feeling Marino had some great wins in the cold too. However, at least 8 (7) of their games were played in warm weather, and in my opinion that does help.
Favre doesn't need to break every record for people to give him the respect he has earned and deserves. I have all the respect in the world for him...records or not.
Edit: Jazbac, the year before the Super Bowl, the Bears lost to SF 22-0 in (in SF) the NFC Championship game. The year after the Super Bowl, they lost 28-3.

Favre has always had good receivers.... you even mentioned one of the best's brothers.... Sterling Sharpe would have been a HOFer if he didnt get injured. He was in the league 7 years, and led the NFL in receptions 3 of them. He also was in the top 5 for receptions, receiving yards, and td's for 4 of the years. His "bad" seasons were his rookie season and in 1991, but even so he had 791 yards his rookie year and just under 1000 in 91, both of which were before Favre got to Green Bay. He also had Antonio Freeman, Robert Brooks, Javon Walker, Donald Driver.... It's a revolving door, and they aren't Jerry Rice, but each were somewhere near the top of the league in the major statistics, and Montana really only ever had one good receiver in Rice. I'll admit that Montana probably had it easier, but don't tell me Favre never had receivers.

I don't agree with your assertion that Marino had a top-notch receiving corps. Favre has spent more of his career surrounded by talent than Marino did.
Favre is loved in Green Bay in a way he wouldn't be loved if he played anywhere else, even if he put up equivalent or slightly better numbers. If he played for most teams, he would be on the bench right now so they could look to the future and develop their young QB talent. However, you're probably right that he would put up better single season stats in a place with better weather. So all things considered, I think he'll retire with about the same career stats in Green Bay as he would if he played in a warmer climate.
Obviously, that isn't what you want to hear, you seem to want to hear that he is the best athlete to ever see grass, but I said what I really think.

You recognise, you are making a few pleasant facets. I'm certain while he referred to as to mention he used to be at his lodge and he desired the girl to come back over he simply desired to hold. Dang, I certain believe sorry poking a laugh at deficient little Brett Favre.

If Favre played in warmer weather with better receivers he probably would be retired now. REASON: Because on a better team they would say it was a team effort and Favre wouldn't be the focal point, which seems to be his goal every year.
THe other players would get more credit and Favre wouldn't be able to say, "I am the leader, without me the (insert team here) wouldn't win." The team that had better players wouldn't hold on to him because they wouldn't need a show piece to appease their fans, like they do in Green Bay where they have nothing except football. He would have been cut or retired 2 or 3 years ago.
So there>>>>>>>>

Favre is overrated, always was. Not to mention the fact that he is a self centered, cry baby. You can't even compare Manning and Favre, so don't try.

Thoughts? You, John Madden, need to stop assuming other's names and admit once and for all your unnatural and disturbing homosexual lust for Brett. It's revolting.
