Have you complained to the Department of Education concerning this offense?

We've clearly lost the understanding of "separation or church and state" that our founding fathers had.

I was born a Roman Catholic and I dont think it's offending at all! "Public" Schools. Do you see the PUBLIC in the phrase? Public schools serves to EVERYONE's needs. Not just a certain few. To make sure of that, they removed the teaching of God so that all students feel included. A public school is supposed to be neutral of any religion so that no religion is favored over the other. If you want God in your life, go to a Catholic or a Christian school. A school is a place to learn. Just because God isn't taught doesn't mean the students remove God from their lives totally. If they were Catholic, they still go to church every Sunday. If they're muslim, they still pray 5 times a day and go to the mosque. So please, stop bothering the Department of Education. There's no point.

I think one important aspect of this issue that gets lost is that its important to seperate the direct influcence of religion in schools, but not to exclude an understanding of religion's place in society from the curriculum. The majority of american's profess a faith in god, most people attend church at least on occasion and we are fighting 2 wars right now with a heavily religious enemy... so to totally ignore the importance of religion in the world by saying no religious study in school is simply ignorant and stupid. To me there is much more harm in not teaching about religion then trying to stop the pledge of allegiance... its like we are spending all this time dealing with silly issues and letting the big ones go undiscussed.

At this point, since thanks to that Atheist woman , prayer has been banned for a long time, I am less offended and more disappointed. I recently saw a question about getting prayer reinstated. I think, rather than have that long, drawn out controversy, if they have a minute of silence for prayer, contemplation or meditation and the freedom to say a prayer if you wish, that would be the best way to handle it. May God protect us and have mercy on us.

It depends on what level. I don't think that they should pray or read the Bible to kids during class time. That would be like forcing all the students to sit and hear the Koran being read and expecting everyone in the class to pray to Allah.

Of course if some of the students willing choose to get together to pray or ready the bible before school, after school, or during lunch that should be allowed.

not at all. I'm surprised it took so long. Not everyone is a Christian, and in Public School (especially with so much cultural, racial, ethnic and religious diversity in the US), no one should have to pray to someone else's "GOD". I am Christian, but I think it would be unfare to impose my religion on someone else in a country where everyone is free to believe and worship as they choose. Someone might not find as much comfort in God as they do Allah...

When I was in elementary school, back in the early '60's, they made us stop praying after the pledge. It was a public school. As a child, it confused me and scared me. I didn't know what to think.

yes, I am. They are taking a way what our nation was built on and our freedom, and our rights as America. It is discrimination. That is why the people came to America.

Ya im offended. Its like they don't even care about religion anymore. God is the one who brought them into this world so they should acknowledge that.

No, I am not offended. I do not want fairytales being taught in school at my expense, I do not want children to believe that in life there is always a happy ending, and I do not want children to be taught one man's god, at the expense of another's god. Comparative religion studies are fine...but a single god???? NO thanks.
