As I recall from prior elections, Republican presidential nominees generally raise more money than their Democrat counterparts. After all, Republicans are generally wealthier than Dems. So why is it that Obama and Clinton (top 2 dems) raised about twice as much as Guiliani and Romney (top 2 repubs) in the 2nd quarter this year? I mean, it wasn't even close!

If the Democrats are able to raise so much more money, do the Republicans have a realistic chance of winning the 2008 election?

People don't like backing perceived losers. Thus the juggernaut is beginning.

As I recall, Republicans raised more money than Democrats in 1996 and Bob Dole still lost to Bill Clinton. So I don't put much stock in fund raising levels.
I think Democrats are raising more because the base of the Republican Party is so PO'd at the Republicans for their support of the now-dead immigration bill. They have closed their wallets.

Because they drunk the kool-aid from the grog of the Democratic Party.

I am an independent voter and will not blindly donate to either party until I see a viable candidate that closely supports my values.

Perceived losers is one reason. The country's revulsion against Republican corruption is another. Now the donors are going to try and corrupt the Democrats as badly as their counterparts. Let's hope they don't succeed.

Because nobody in their right mind believes that a Republican will be elected - not for a long, long time.

Why give oats to a dead horse!

The Republicans are not in full support of any candidate as yet. Once they get behind one, the money will pour.

I would not count the chickens before they are hatched.

Would you want to clean up your friends mess? I think the corporate royalist republicans are going to let the Dem`s win and tank the economy on them and Carl Rove will get his 100 year republican rule he keeps talking about.

Because democrats are a much smarter party and actually know what theyre talking about. The fact that they raise more money, won't effect the election because a democrat will definlty win anyway especially after how much Bush screwed us over.

because democrats represent the poorest folks in the country
Republicans use their voice much more wisely than Democrats do. As you will probably notice over the years. Instead of jumping up and down and making lots of noise, they wait until the time is right, and important, to be heard.
Seriously! Democrats are always claiming to represent the common people, the under priviledged. Isn't it weird they are getting so much more contributions from their supporters when they are supposed to be less fortunate than the supporters of Republicans? Doesn't that strike anybody as inconsistent or just me?

Because Republicans are still mad about Bush's comments on the immigration reform and are refusing to donate until he apologizes.

Maybe because they need it more?

Let the democratic contributions roll in .... go ahead and waste all your money on fighting amongst yourselves. The more they contribute now, the less they'll have to contribute when we actually have party nominees selected.

And the REAL campaign begins.
