You have a sprain more than likely or at least a strain.

It will go away in a little while, but I would tape it and take Motrin/Advil. Notice I said Motrin or Advil. They are NSAIDs which will help the pain yet also treat the inflamation.

It could be a dislocation as oppose to a sprain, but you should have it looked at if you have difficulty moving it or numbness/tingling, discoloration. Ice is usually helpful to take down the swelling. Limit moving it much. If you cannot move it at all, absolutely have it looked at. It may need to be splinted. I wouldn't recommend taping it as often people put the tape on too tight and fail to adjust it properly. We use to tape injuries in the old days.

Extra pressure from the tape can make it worse, possibly further damaging nerves if it isn't on right.

X-rays are helpful to determine whether or not it's been fractured. You need to rest it, regardless.

As far as medication, most orthopeadic docs recommend Ibuprofen but some folks can't take it if they are prone to stomach ulcers, on other anticoagulants, are allergic, etc.

I am not licensed to prescribe. In any case, if it isn't better after a few days, have it checked.

MRI is necessary. Stop blowing immediately. You might have torn a ligament or tendon. Top heal, it must be able to be allowed to heal. Bowl and it gets worse. X-rays show nothing.
