I've heard a lot of talk of the World ending in 2012. Apparently the Mayan calender ends in 2012 plus concerns over an upcoming reversal of the Earth's and maybe the Sun's magnetic fields in 2012. Any truth to all this talk?

Yes, a massive upheaval is expected in 2012. 12th year of the 21st century shall witness the most fiercely fought world war... The world shall ever witness! A fight to the finish between Christianity and Islamic Dharma would result in annihilation of 1200 million people world over. The massive bombing... the use of nuclear weapons would disturb rather trigger the magnetic field of Mother Earth.

Even a slight tilt would cause havoc! 1000 feet high waves, sea waters raising by 10 to 12 feet, massive submerging of coastal belts world over would be a catastrophe none would ever forget in history! The global warming that results would melt the ice caps beyond repair! The world is witnessing floods all over... what if the magnitude of the floods is multiplied by thousand!

Everything mankind faces is the result of our own karma. The doctrine of karma... the theory of mass karma governs the destiny of mankind! As we sow so shall we reap... nothing less or more! Mankind has practically ruined nature... the fury of nature would be with vengeance! The relationship amongst human beings has reached its lowest ebb! Chances of recovery are nil!

Mankind practically has reached a point of no return! Dominated by our ego... we desire annihilating one and all... our wanton desires and greed for materialistic riches rules the roost! In the circumstances hope of hoping godly forces prevailing... nothing of the sort would happen! Humility has been practiced for long... the time for meek to pick arms has arrived. Storm Warning for 2012
The next solar maximum could be 50% higher than the last! Although this is unlikely to harm us much, if combined with a reduction of strength or reversal of the magnetic poles, it could cause some major problems. (SOURCE NASSA)

Why did the ancient Mayan or pre-Maya choose December 21st, 2012 A.D., as the end of their Long Count calendar? This article will cover some recent research. Scholars have known for decades that the 13-baktun cycle of the Mayan "Long Count" system of timekeeping was set to end precisely on a winter solstice, and that this system was put in place some 2300 years ago. This amazing fact - that ancient Mesoameri- can skywatchers were able to pinpoint a winter solstice far off into the future - has not been dealt with by Mayanists. And why did they choose the year 2012? One immediately gets the impression that there is a very strange mystery to be confronted here. I will be building upon a clue to this mystery reported by epigrapher Linda Schele in Maya Cosmos (1994). This article is the natural culmination of the research relating to the Mayan Long Count and the precession of the equinoxes that I explored in my recent book Tzolkin: Visionary Perspectives and Calendar Studies (Borderlands Science and Research Foundation, 1994).

What will happen in 2012?
According to their calendar, the Maya believed that their world would end on Dec 21, 2012. Of all the dates put forth by prophets and cultures for a doomsday, this is one with an authentic almost eerie feel to it. But what will happen? A global cataclysm is one possibility. Presented here is enough information to help you decide - be you an expert or a beginner.

What is Survive 2012?
Survive 2012 is a non-fiction book I am working on. Progress is currently slow as need to work hard in the corporate world to build the necessary funds. My thoughts & plans are constantly evolving in line with my continual research. Survive 2012 is also the name of this website which is an online version of the completed chapters, some half-finished chapters and some other bits and pieces. A brief explanation of my theory is here.

I don't think the world will end in 2012 because of reversal of magnetic fields. The Earth's fields have been reversed before, i'm not sure about the Sun's.

A new study suggests, however, that the violent destruction of an asteroid can create a long-lasting rain of meteorites. The space rocks would be delivered to Earth by a "meteorite express," the study says.

Total travel time to our planet: a mere hundred thousand years.

The research, which is described in tomorrow's edition of the science journal Nature, was conducted by scientists who studied meteorites preserved in 480-million-year-old sediments in southern Sweden.

The scientists found that the meteorites contained gases produced by cosmic rays that suggest the meteorites' transfer to Earth occurred much faster than for more recent ones.

The data led researchers to conclude that a violent collision in our solar system's distant asteroid belt 500 million years ago produced meteorites that traveled to Earth in a relatively scant hundred thousand years.

"It's the first physical confirmation of unusually short transfer times [of meteorites] after a major asteroid collision," said Philipp Reza Heck, the report's lead author. Heck studies cosmochemistry at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich.

His research was partially funded by a grant from the National Geographic Society's Committee for Research and Exploration.

All this hoopla stems from the fact that a Mayan codex calendar ends in 2012. So how do we know that wasn't just the end of one volume of the codex; the Catholic missionaries destroyed 99.9% of the codeces---every one they could get their evil grubby mitts on. Anyway, I have an astrological ephemeris which ends Dec 31, 1990. I don't seem to remember the world ending on that date.
