I am trying to put a 5.7l v8 in a 1993 Chevy Pickup with a 4.3l v6, I am trying to use all of the factory EFI components. Would the v6 computer work with a v8 engine? Or do I need to find a v8 computer, or is there a company out there that I can purchase a v8 prom to install in the v6 computer.

HA HA!!!

You need the V-8 computer AND wiring harness that goes with it,!
You cant do "white-guy-hot-rod" engine swaps like you could 35 years ago, Those days are gone!

stay with the 4.3, its a good motor and gas is just going to cost more in the future!

Which Chevy V6? The 2.8L sucks. The 3.1L is better but mostly because it has EFI. Getting the EFI to meld with your car is going to be a chore BTW. The best Chevy V6 is the 4.3L as it is a 350 with 2 cylinders cut out, but you still have the EFI problem. If you can get a complete wiring harness with computer for an F-body it will help. The Pontiac may have come with the BOP V6 in which case you are in for a harder conversion. Myself, I would stick with the V8 and make sure it is tuned for mileage. Or you could put in a Chevy V8. They get better MPG than the Pontiac engines.

I would recomend that you find a wiring harrness, and computer off of a truck with a v8. I have a 89 fullsize that I took the computer out of, and I went to a carb. That was the stupidest thing Ive ever done, because of the gas prices. This will not be an easy project but it will work. Be sure that you run the correct trans too. The computers were different for standards, and autos.

Boy oh boy what a mess we made. Not any thing will work V-6 to V-8 consult the hot rodders in your area 5.7 will tear up a 4.3 auto matic transmission not to mention rear end gear ratio will be 4/11 and to low except drag racing. Dash board tachometer won't work with eight signals fuel injectors 6 to eight or throttle body systems hook up different. Different starter alternator locations and different wiring harnesses as well as computers Fuel pump can neither keep up with V-8 demand or pressure won't be right. Think very carefully GM enengineers spent millions developing that truck with that engine so suspension springs and ball joints brake sizes are all different too. Engine swap magizines are a good place to start. Get everything ready it might take you a month to assemble the V-8 into the truck. a professional will run away from that much liability. Unless he is in it for the money. Have you thought about a new truck?

You will need the engine bay wiring harness and eccm from a 5.7l equipped truck. Way too many wiring differences to make burning a new eprom viable.

You could just carb it and stick in a vac advance distributer and be done with it if you aren't wanting to spend a lot of time/money on it.
