Can't say I always obeyed my parents. I was a bad kid and a rebel. But I've always respected and loved my parents. And still do.

I think a lot of times parents don't know how to deal with kids and give them respect but still discipline them too. Parents should respect their children, but it's a lot more difficult for them to show respect for their children because they probably never had it as a child growing up and don't have any model to use a a guide. However just by using my experience with me and my own siblings and our relationships to our parents, it is a lot easier for your parents to calm down and give you the respect you deserve when you're calm and rational about things when you talk to them. People a lot of the time have trouble giving kids respect because they are kids, but if you show them that you can be mature about situations, and sometimes this means taking their crap with a closed mouth and a blank face, then they won't know what to do and will stop yelling a lot sooner.

I can't say I had any respect for my dad. He was an alcoholic and did nothing to earn my respect, he acted like a bigger child than I did.

I respected my mother and obeyed her because I knew everything she did was for a reason and she made a lot of sacrafices for us kids.

I did obey my parents most times and when I didn't I got in trouble. But I always tried to get away with things like most children do.

My old man was a cop and my mom was a hardworking home-maker with 3 rambunctious boys... I respected, sometimes feared (dad) and almost always obeyed my parents.

But when we got out of line... we paid for it.

Peace

Yes, I did, and I grew up in an era where a neighbor would call your parents if you misbehaved around her and you were in big trouble when you got home.

When I was a child, yes I did and unfortunately it took till an adult to realize to break free from those people and they were control freaks.

Not always. Respect needs to be earned, not forced upon you.
