i think equating gender with gentleness is a misconception. i have seen some very gentle men and some very not gentle women. i work in a hospital and see the gentleness of the male doctors with the patients.and then i see the nurses being not so gentle ( i am not saying all of them just a few)!

Throughout history women have been portrayed as the "gentle, fairer sex".
It could be argued that this belief came from the medieval times when a woman's role was to look after the children and support her husband. However, not all women are the same and it isn't fair to generalise. I've know some very "gentle" men.
I guess that's where the word "gentleman" came from.

Women can SHOW gentleness more freely, so they do. But they can equally be Madeleine Albright or Condi Rice! The thing with women is, there's no conflict with being both at different times.

I've seen men be very gentle, but only in completely private situations. In public, they keep up the machismo thing. However, women seem to feel free in either environment to be affectionate, comforting, etc.

I would say in their perpetual state they are more gentle. It doesn't require aggression in being a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, or grand-ma.

Even when venturing out of the normal state of womanhood we have mastered communication and this keeps us gentle.

There are some extraordinary cases where women come out of the gentle state. Women can lift cars when their baby is in danger. So too if a woman is trained to be in a competitive and aggressive enviroment (kick-boxing, or politics) she will learn and adapt like a man. However, unlike a man, it takes more training than natural instinct.

Put it this way a woman with her man is as gentle as a kitten, but if she's a fighter and gets into a fight with another girl, that's another story, so the fight is over she returns to her guy and she's a kitten once more. It all depends upon the circumstances and the mood.

I suppose you mean more than a man. Any time a woman puts her hand on your arm, you know it's not a man. That's an example. She makes less noise than a man, smells nicer, her footsteps - even if she's heavy woman are not as loud. Nor is her cough or her laugh nor her sneeze. Most women never slam doors, blare car horns, snore loudly or fart unsocially.

Even big strong Sojourner Truth who toted bails and lifted trunks, was gentle - and aint she a woman?

Not as a rule of thumb of today, and this is a generalisation, of course.

They are seemingly (mostly) overweight (doughnut shaped) to the point of 'Pot' bellied: Loud: Drunks: Aggressive: Rude: Abusive: Lacking in Manners, Courtesy and or Respect (whilst seeing that from others): With few skills, beyond getting pregnant: Arrogant ~ and without anything to be arrogant about ~ Other than being overweight and likely 'Pot' bellied: Loud: Drunks: Aggressive: Rude: Abusive: Lacking in Manners, Courtesy and or Respect (whilst seeing that from others): With few skills, beyond getting pregnant: Arrogant ~ whilst lacking any thing over which they can be justified in this.

On the other hand.........

some women, not all. I knew a woman who could make you relax simply by putting a hand on your shoulder because she just had this fantastic motherly charm. I also knew a women who liked to arm wrestle and body slam.
