If you are referring to the coil packs for the spark plugs the first thing to do is check the electrical wiring feeding them and make sure the connections are clean and sound. After that check them out with and ohmeter to check the resistance on the low and high voltage sides of the coils. Also check the voltage coming to the coils and make sure it is at least 12 volts.
You can swap coils to see if the problem moves.
If you are referring to your CDI unit you should be having problems with both sets of coils.
A good test to see where the problem is coming from is to start the bike from cold and feel each exhaust header to see that they are all getting warm. (You won't have much time until they get hot enough to burn you)

I don't know what you mean by spark plug UNIT. Do you mean the ignition coil? The bike is 27 years old and you don't state the mileage of the bike. It may just be time for them to be changed. It may not be the coil at all and instead it may be the plug wires. I don't know about the 1980 750 Honda but I know the older single overhead cam engine Honda 750 had plug wires molded into the coils. If your plug wires went bad you had to graft new wires on or you had to replace the whole coil with attached plug wires. Could this be your problem?

The spark units went bad all the time on those bikes.
It got to the point where it felt like changing the spark units was part of a tune up.
If you plan on keeping the bike for a long time, or forever, buy a bunch of spark units (in the event they are discontinued).
Store a couple on the bike when you're out riding.
Electrical stuff doesn't last forever.
Just like a light bulb in your house, it's eventually going to burn out.

Perhaps age is the suspect. it is 27 years old. Also check your wiring for corrosion. Is the insulating around the wires in tact. Or is it cracked.

they were pretty bad when new. main reason for failure was ignition left on with engine not running. coils draw about 4.5 amps and igniter boxes just cooked.
Forget exact details as its been 27yrs since I did Honda new model electrical course on them
