I hope after 9 years of sitting you didn't try to start it without draining and replacing all the fluids in the vehicle. The fuel will have no potency after that time period, and the oil will not protect it. Even the coolant is suspect.

Once you have done all that, then start checking. Are you getting spark, are you getting fuel, do you have compression? If you have all three, it should start.

Remember all gas engines need three to start. Spark, fuel, compression. Chances are it's in your spark if you have changed the coil (assume you didn't have spark).

Hope it's not the rotory engine. If the engine has a control module take it off and have it tested at a parts store for free. I know autozone will.

9 years not running?
Makes me wonder why it hasn't been run for that long.
There could be a whole bunch of reasons.

Did it run before it was parked? Or did they park it because it quit running?

My advice is to buy a repair manual for your car, and go through the toubleshooting portion of it.
Haynes or Chiltons are both good books and run around $25.00

Instead of trying to find out what is wrong with it, find out what is NOT wrong with it and narrow down the posibilities.

My guess...... Relays under the hood are corroded from sitting for so long.

ADDED:
I bought a 85 Celica GT that had issues with relays that sometimes worked, sometimes didn't.

need fresh gas, heck you need to flush out all of the varnish that your old gas turned into. Hopefully you put a new battery in it. and I am sure that after 9 years the engine apex seals are far too gone to keep compression.

Junk it.
