If it is restricted, two common forms of restrictor are.

Throttle. This is easy to tell because you will not be able to twist the throttle as far as you would expect.
A spacer will probably be stopping it from opening fully at one end of the throttle cable

Intake. I'm not sure on the confuguration of the xtq engine so can't be 100% sure, but, a friend of mine had a restricted 650 single. It was restricted in the form of a washer restricting the flow of air from the air filter in to the engine.
Had to take the seat off and disconnect the air filter to get to it to take it out.

It is however likely that the bike isn't restricted, just lacking in power through design

Happy Travelling.

if i remember correctly there is a restrictor in the exhaust system.... Disconnect the exhaust header from the head(engine), it will look like a washer(restricts exhaust flow) pop it out, if it does not pop out then you need to drill it out or in other words "bore it out". this is a common restriction that everyone forgets about. And also you might want consider changing the gearing(sprockets) this procedure will make a difference too.

If this is the chinese trail bike you are talking about,I think you will likely find it uses a copy of hondas old 125 ohv 4 stroke engine. This is a very tough unit but not very powerful..youll be lucky to get 12 hp in standard form....small 4 strokes like this one are hard to tune for more power. You can try the usual things like free flow air filters and maybe skim the head but dont expect a huge change

It is a mistake to think that all 125's are restricted.

Many are simply designed to make no more than 10-12bhp. They aren't restricted at all, that's just the way they are built. You have got one of them...

I have a "champ 125 dakar" imported from China.
It's a trials, looks rather good, but it's very sluggish. Possibly also restricted.
I hope you find out how to re-restrict it, you can then pass it on to me, it's rather embarrassing being overtaken by fcukin' hairdriers.
Good luck
