Everyone knows the 4th of July Holiday is a Joke, the wrong side won,The 13 Colonies wanted Independence from Great Britian because Slavery was outlawed there and the Slave Owners Washington and Jeferson and many others wanted Slavery to continue. It was only Dumb Luck that the Insurgents beat the Larger English Empire.

It's Funny that History is repeating itself, right now the American Empire cannot Crush the Iraqi Freedom Fighters after 4 years of trying and The Taliban Soliders are still fighting US Soliders after 6 years of War.Looks like the USA will end up like England when these Wars are over.

There's no need for it. The school board already allows observant students to not attend classes on their respective religious holidays, which in my experience is the policy in most American public school districts. All it takes is a note from either parent or clergy and the absence is excused. This idea was brought up by the students. Without more information, there's no way to know what the motivation behind it is. It looks like the school board isn't going to change the existing policy; my guess is that they are considering the proposal only because to not do so would make them look dismissive of the student's opinion. American schools don't close for Christmas or Easter; public schools have Winter Break and Spring Break, which while conveniently coinciding with the aforementioned Christian holidays, aren't the sole reason for students being off. Chanukah and Eid often fall within the Winter Break period as well, and as a practical matter it actually makes sense not to have the schools open during the 'holiday season'. Spring Break doesn't have any religious import at all. it's a throwback to when children were needed to help on the family farm; this is why American students to this day still enjoy a three-month Summer vacation. None of the above means that any one group (i.e. Christians) is being given special privilege, and thus there is no cause for measures attempting to 'balance the scale'.

Any country who seeks to gain their freedom & independence from another is never a joke. The soldiers who fought & those who gave their lives for my freedom is no joke. It's a cherished holiday here & one we gratefully celebrate. You're entitled to your opinion the wrong side won but the fact is we won & achieved the goal we fought for,our independence & the right to be a free nation. So, no, I don't agree we should be called the British States. We fought & won the right to be called the U.S.A. & I'm proud to be an American living in the freedom of the U.S.A.

btw...the current war that we & other countries are fighting is against terrorism & let's hope all the countries efforts are successful in crushing them.

JC N, the Soviets sarcrifice more, and ultimately saved us.

The US only revolted because they were disgrunted with most things, and probably the idea of 'freedom' was the last thing on their minds. They complained about taxes in Boston, when they were paying far less than those in London.
