It started going wonky about a month ago. It took 3 or 4 firm pushes on the handle to get it to flush. Now it's given up entirely, no matter how many times you try.

Does anybody know how to fix it?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You need to adjust the chain on the handle and check the float. If the float is ready to break off, your toilet won't flush and the float will have to be replaced.

If the handle is moving too hard:
Open the box with the water...and check the mechanism. It nees to move smootly.

If the handle is moving too easy:
Something is broken inside and will need a spare part easily obtainable form any big store like walmart or home depot or lowes. Plus these stores have hell-of-a-fellows that can tell you exactly what you need. Take pictures...show them to them.

If the handle is moving normally but no water is coming down:
The rubber cap is detached from the mechanism that lifts it. Screw the cap back or ask those fellows I mentioned which one you need. Buy 2: one screwable the other one with the whole mechanism attached. The screwable cap cost like 60cents. The mechanism a little bit more.

Good luck!

Remove the tank lid. Look at the chain/strap that goes from the handle to the flapper on the bottom of the tank. It may be broken or disconnected. Also check the nut on the inside of the tank that holds the handle on. It may be loose. The nut has left handed threads so turn the opposite way you normally would.

take the lid off the tank and check the chain/connecter from the handle to the stopper in the bottom and see if it's disconnected or too loose. You should be able to easily adjust it.
