Oh dear, that is rough!
Few people actually like cleaning, and I'm no exception. But the alternative is worse. However, it can be made less scary.
First, get a friend or two in with you to help clean the house. Have call-in pizza or something like that so it will be less of a chore, and play some music that will make you feel like moving.
Start by taking a garbage bag and throwing out the garbage and broken things.
Next, get rid of the things you don't use. Call Good Will or a similar organization.
Next, get your kitchen cleaned up, and get everything put away in it's place.
Afterwards, if you put papers immediately into a file or in a garbage can, and immediately clean the dishes after you eat, they will never build up and cause you to feel depressed again. Do the same with your dirty clothes. And if you have a load of laundry that needs to be done, you can start that and let the machine take care of itself while you (or whoever) see to other chores.
This is something I do: I keep a spray bottle of diluted Lysol in the bathroom, and another in the kitchen. In the mornings after I've done my thing in the bathroom, I spray down the sink and the outside of the toilet, and wipe it down. And after showers, I do the same with the tub. The bathroom never really gets dirty now.
That should take care of your house. Now, for you, you'll want to talk with your doctor about the depression issue. I know how hard it is to be motivated when you feel like it won't make a difference.
Good luck, Honey. I'll be cheering you on.

Colon cancer is serious and I don't blame you for not finding housework a main priority.. You need to get well and then find peace and order.. .If it's possible could you maybe have some friends/family members/neighbors or church members help you get your house in order? Maybe make it more of a social get together to get around people.. There's no shame in asking for help or support... Or better yet..find a colon cancer support group through your hospital and start networking there.. You might find it very helpful to talk to others that share your experiences.. Good luck and be well.

After you're finish with papers, toss them out. Junk mail don't even bring in the house. Use Chinet paper plates and use one glass, one set of flatware (or use plasticware). If you cook use nonstick pans for easy cleaning.
If you don't have family to help you out on cleaning then hire someone every two weeks (or at least monthly) to do the deep cleaning for you.
Sometimes you just HAVE to push yourself when you are ill and try not to let things get you down. There is always someone else worst off then you so sometimes we just have to keep pushing ourselves.
Good luck with your cancer.

My house is a mess all the time, but it's because I don't mind and I actually find order in my mess... I do hope that things work out for you, everyone has different ways with dealing with stress and worries, some cleans some those.
I personally think that cleaning shouldn't be a priority for you right now, just get yourself feeling better...

I don't think anyone really enjoys cleaning the house, but unless you want new roommates, ants, mice, fly's, & assorted bugs, it has to get done.
Actually an old friend I had, many years ago {20?}, discovered physical exersion helped her defeat her cancer. I saw her looking young in a store about 3 weeks ago.

Colon cancer is not really dangerous and you can usually solve the problem (if treated early) with a surgery. Dont let yourself down...you might live another 50 years...and I wouldnt live in that mess for that long!

So sorry to hear your news. I suggest you see your family doctor & have him put you on an antidepressant. (Lexapro is great, as it helps w/depression/anxities.) Soon, your depression will subside, & you will feel so much better mentally. You'll regain energy & will have a whole different outlook on life. Then, you'll want to clean your house & have it smelling fresh & clean. That clutter you live in, would depress me. Feel better soon. :)

"Please help me!!!!!" is, I think, exactly what you should be saying to your friends and family. It's normal to not want to clean your house, and I also think it's normal to not clean your house, period, when dealing with something major like that.
