There is obviously more lubrication, which can be pleasant for some people. Some women also claim relief from menstrual cramps due to the orgasm; and some even claim that orgasms are more easily achieved.

Be aware though that if the woman is not using any sort of hormonal birth control, pregnancy IS a possibility, so condom usage is advised.

Well it's fine if you put a towel on the bed, but it may make you two uncomfortable seeing the blood on your penis or coming out of her or on the towel.. So take that into consideration. Also make sure to use a condom if you haven't been tested for STDs and one piece of advice I would give is if you guys are clean and in a relationship and don't use condoms, don't ejaculate inside of her when she's on her period because it tends to make it very burny and itchy when it mixes with the blood. Well I don't really know why I've just heard that from multiple girls when they do it.

sex during her period had no bad effects on either person..
IF she feels up to it is another matter..but having sex can decrease cramps and it gives you a good workout , releasing endorphines...
it does NOT have to be messy...she can either shower right before and there may some small mess after, so a shower after is good..
you can of course have sex in the shower or bath so makes it cleaner and fun too!!
relax..take your time...and if she's up for it and feels ok then go for it..
I know it makes me feel better :0)

first it would be very messy. there is no effect you can't get pregnant because there is no egg to fertilize, you would just have to wait about 2 weeks after your period is over with.
