Liberalism is based on emotion, while conservatism is based more on thought. Conservatives think liberals are wrong. Liberals think we conservatives are evil. They don't attack our positions, they attack us.

It is not that I dislike liberals, (I am conservative in most of my views), but I dislike the policies that they want to impose on me. I have friends who are much more liberal than I am, and we have a great time debating and discussing some issues! Of course I believe my point of view is correct, and my friends believe differently. We are able to talk (argue) about things, but we in the end remain friends.
The problem is when the liberals use the force of government to do things that I disagree with. They want to restrict the the individual's right to make choices, instead forcibly imposing their ideas on everyone! For example, I do not smoke. I do not like to be around people smoking. I like smoke free restaurants.
I also know that the restaurants are private property. If the owner of the property wants to allow smoking in some or all of the business, he should have that right. It is not the place of government to control his choice. As the owner of the property, he should have control over it!! He paid for it!!

I as a conservative dislike liberals for many reasons
1. They are too emotional and not fun to be around
2. They are arrogant and think they know better than the average person how to spend their money and live their lives.
3. They are all about themselves.
4. Their policies fail and they have no idea.
5. They undermine our war efforts against terrorists repeatedly. It is more important to them to say what they want (even though it is aiding the enemy).
They dislike us because we believe in standards of behavior. Right and wrong is black and white to me.

Because they are told to by their respective parties. The ironic part is that most do not even know what each party stood for when there was a difference in them. Most so-called conservatives of today would be closer aligned with the Democrat party of the 50 and 60's. The Democrats of the Kennedy era were more conservative than the Conservatives of today.

I think that the degree of dislike between conservatives and libs is great in this day and age because of liberals (being the humanitarians that they are) believe in aborting innocent babies, and because they want to do away with tradition and many Christian values. Liberals hate conservatives because we stand for values that sicken liberals. Liberals are generally childish and ill-mannered. Makes them pretty easy to dislike.

It is troubling, isn't it? But then, I've heard people like Rush Limbaugh say that this idea that we should all get along and respect each other is just more liberal twaddle. Conservatives see someone disagreeing with them as no different from a terrorist attack, and many have said so publically. It's this very single-minded focus on holding onto power by any means and demonizing your opposition that liberals find so disturbing about conservatives. When one point of view calls for mutual respect and the other for kill the opposition, it's remarkable that liberals make any progress at all. I see it as a testament to the American people's intelligence and respect for diversity.

From the answers you are getting I would say it's all the other side's fault. Can we agree that we are all very lucky to be living in a free nation where we have the right to disagree? At least today?

I don't know, but it bothers me that I have to tolerate everything no matter how heinous and evil it is and as a Christian I don't get that same treatment.
Perhaps liberals don't like conservatives becaues we believe in moral absolutes. Liberals prefer to drift.

Because that is how people are taught to be and they often don't question their programming.
When you actually stop to think things through, there really is no point to arguing. Half the people I know that are 'conservatives' or 'liberals' don't even fully understand what those words mean. They are just defending a label.

Conservatives feel that everyone should adopt THEIR values. If everything worked the way they wanted it to, they believe the whole world would be better off. I feel that each individual knows what is best for them and therefore each is allowed to make their own choices. Conservatives want to dictate to everyone else what is best when it comes to social issues. I disagree with that. They also are less inclined to help others and think "If they can't handle their situation, tough. It's not my fault they made this or that decision. I don't care so long as I don't have to pay for it." I don't agree with that line of thinking or attitude.

Not really, if you look at the campaign money that's spent on politics and where it's coming from is the real difference. Most of our political figures are just puppets trying to get you to think like their money people. Who made the Gulf War, Who made the money from it?
