Peter Gammons...Trust me...Its him...He's a walking baseball bible...I don't like baseball nearly as much as football, but when he's talkin about the Red Sox, I always listen...

Kurkijan isn't bad, but the most knowledgable baseball mind on ESPN is far and away Peter Gammons. His work at the Globe is legendary among fans and other writers - he was the first to make use of a "notes" area at the end of his column - and there's a reason he won the Spink award and got voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Gammons is the most level-headed of the ESPN group, and he does the best job of combining both statistical and non-statistical approaches to the game. He also always seems to be the one who breaks the big stories, because he has such great sources.

As for the rest of the gang, they're mostly morons. If you ever read the site Firejoemorgan, you'll see how often Morgan, Phillips, Dibble and Kruk spout absolute nonsense. They're on there because of their outspokenness, not because of any baseball knowledge they possess.

Tim Kurkjian knows baseball history (read: stats) and provides a point-of-view different than most other pundits. I like him for that reason.

Peter Gammons has had a long and illustrious career. Make no mistake though, he is clearly "an east-coast guy." That's not bad, it just describes his frame of reference.

One of the guys I like most is on the *other* network --- Kevin Kennedy.

None of them know everything about the MLB, but they damn sure think they do. Tim Kurkjian comes the closest. Peter Gammons is the most overrated, plus he sounds like he's on the Red Sox's payroll. I call him Peter Crammit, because that's what the old punk can do with his "analysis" as far as I'm concerned. . . .

Kruk might have more insite as to what a player is thinking or doing during a specific play. But by far, Peter Gammons can tell you the strengths, weaknesses, match-ups, trends, etc of every team and he knows a great deal about the minor league stars as well.

I believe you are referring to Peter Gammons and it just so happens that he does know everything about baseball. He is one of the best analysts in the business today.
